“We would like to think that Jean Sainsbury is somehow aware of the benefits she has brought to so many animals, her impact in The Gambia has been immense and we are so very grateful to the Trustees of the Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust for the support that they have given us”
We would like to congratulate The Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust on their 40th anniversary.
The Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and has every reason to be very grateful to JSAWT For some generous grants over the years. Each grant has enabled us to progress and make a lasting impact on animal welfare through education and sensitizing communities.
A major contribution for the building of the Makasutu Animal Welfare centre and Derek Knottenbelt Hospital has brought about major change with over 1000 animal welfare students passing through our doors since it opened six years ago. We are seeing encouraging changes in attitudes to animals.

A more recent grant for neutering has had excellent results with 605 dogs and cats neutered and 846 dogs vaccinated against rabies. These interventions have had a major impact on animal welfare, and we liken it to tossing a pebble into a pond and watching the ripples grow. JSAWT has enabled us to be that pebble.
