Helping Rhinos awarded grant to protect orphaned rhinos

A Lifeline for Orphaned Rhinos

In 2024, we awarded a £17,500 grant to Helping Rhinos to support the expansion of the Zululand Rhino Orphanage. With this funding, the orphanage has been able to expand its facilities, giving these vulnerable animals the care they need to heal, grow, and ultimately, return to the wild where they belong.

Creating a Safe Path Back to the Wild

One of the developments made possible by this grant is the construction of full pole bomas—secure enclosures designed to help older, weaned rhino orphans slowly adjust to less human contact. This is a critical step in their rehabilitation, preparing them for a successful release back into their natural habitat.

Saving Lives, One Rhino at a Time

The grant has also funded much-needed upgrades to the orphanage’s intensive care unit, ensuring that injured and unwell rhino calves receive lifesaving care the moment they are rescued. These updates mean that every orphan has the best chance at survival.

A Future Worth Fighting For

This grant provides essential support for rhino conservation. With poaching still a major threat, every effort to rescue, rehabilitate, and release these animals is a step toward securing their future in the wild.

We hope that by awarding this grant to Helping Rhinos, the Zululand Rhino Orphanage can continue its vital mission, ensuring that each rescued rhino gets the second chance it deserves.
