Simon Jones from Helping Rhinos sent us an update detailing how our funding is helping to track rhinos, in an effort to prevent poaching in the Eastern Cape of South Africa:
” Sixteen tracking devices were fitted to strategic rhino across seven locations. The implementation of new technology is represented in the LORA network systems which we are busy piloting across two protected environments in both black and white rhino.
To date no rhino have been poached on any of the protected areas where these tracking devices have been deployed. This grant has made a significant contribution in helping us to make these animals more secure as well as introducing new technology which has paved the way for a regional roll-out of rhino tracking devices offering a vastly superior system to what we have used over the past 20 years”
