Globateer’s Mission: Transforming Animal Welfare in Peru

Supporting Animal Welfare in Peru: How Our Grant is Making a Difference

At the Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust, we are committed to funding projects that make a real impact on animal welfare. One of our recent grant recipients, Globateer, has been doing incredible work in rural villages around Cusco, Peru, ensuring that dogs and cats receive the care they desperately need.

Expanding Reach and Impact

With our grant, Globateer was able to purchase essential medical supplies, medicines, and equipment for their mobile clinic, as well as cover costs associated with neutering. This has allowed them to expand their services and offer vital healthcare to more animals than ever before.

So far, their team has registered 5,607 animals and is now working in 63 locations across Cusco, Peru. Their efforts focus on registering roaming dogs and providing them with much-needed healthcare, including:

  • Health checks
  • Anti-parasite medications (internal and external)
  • Vaccinations
  • Treatment of illnesses and injuries with antibiotics, wound care, and more
Promoting Neutering & Community Education

A concerning 91% of the animals they encounter are not neutered, which presents significant challenges in controlling the population and ensuring better health outcomes. Through community education, Globateer is raising awareness about the importance of neutering and proper animal care.

Since August 2024, their work has resulted in:

  • 1,143 animals receiving healthcare
  • 122 animals being neutered

This programme is ongoing, with continued visits to villages for health check-ups, vaccinations, and further expansion into new communities.

The Bigger Picture

The statistics gathered by Globateer highlight the harsh realities faced by roaming dogs in Cusco, Peru:

  • Only 7% of village roaming dogs live beyond 5 years old
  • 76% of the animals treated are dogs, 24% are cats
  • 59% are male, 41% are female

Through dedicated efforts, they are working to improve survival rates, enhance the quality of life for these animals, and reduce the number of unwanted litters through neutering initiatives.

Looking Ahead

We are incredibly proud to support Globateer and their mission to transform animal welfare in Cusco. Their work is making a tangible difference, and we look forward to seeing their continued success.

At the Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust, we remain dedicated to funding initiatives like this, helping organisations create lasting change for animals in need. If you’d like to support projects like Globateer’s, consider donating to our trust so we can continue to make a difference worldwide.
