UK Charities working Overseas Guidelines

The Trust requires all applicants to be charities which have been registered with a UK Charity Commission/Register for at least 12 months.

All applicants, regardless of level of income, are asked to provide 12 months of independently verified accounts.

The Trust cannot support: 

  1. Applications from individuals

  2. Charities not registered in the UK

  3. Applications received within 12 months of any previous application to the Trust.

  4. Charities offering sanctuary to animals that do not strive to re-home, foster or, in the case of wildlife release back into the wild, unless to do so would endanger the animal

  5. Charities that export animals to the UK from overseas unless they can satisfy all the criteria on the attached link.

  6. Charities that do not have a humane destruction policy for animals that cannot be given (whether for medical or behavioural reasons) a reasonable quality of life. 

  7. Charities with cash and/or investments valued at more than one year’s expenditure will not qualify for a donation, unless it can be demonstrated that reserves are being held specifically for a purpose/project.

  8. Charities that raise funds for other charities/ NGOs that have substantial cash reserves.

  9. Charities that spend more than a reasonable proportion of their annual income on administration or cannot justify their costs per animal or wildlife species helped.

  10. Applications that allocate or incur more than 15% of the total Project cost to/in administrative costs in the UK.

  11. Projects that cannot commence within the first six months of any grant offer.
